Description:
Maestro Kim will present an engaging and lively talk on the inner workings of a symphony orchestra and how they mirror our diverse work environment and greater community. He will also discuss how his background as 1.5 generation Korean-American growing up in a very homogeneous Midwest region continues to shape and guide his work as a leader of a multi faceted cultural organization.

Jin Kim is in his 21st season as Music Director and Conductor of Atlantic Symphony Orchestra. Under his leadership ASO has become one of the premier professional orchestras in New England. Kim has appeared with orchestras in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia including National Arts Center (Ottawa), Plzen Philharmoinc (Czech) and Korean Symphony orchestras. As a teacher, he leads orchestral seminars at The Harvard Musical Association and conducted orchestras at the Eastman School of Music, Boston University and Seoul National University. Winner of numerous awards, Kim is the first prize winner of ACDA National Conducting Competition and a recipient of the prestigious Robert Shaw Conducting Fellowship. Born in Korea, Kim immigrated to the United States at age eleven. Prior to becoming a professional musician, he was an active community organizer focusing on diversity issues.
